The Performance Project Benefit Concert 2013 will feature performances by acclaimed musicians and the First Generation Ensemble. Musical artists joining the First Generation Ensemble will include: Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers; Evelyn Harris, acclaimed acapella signer, formerly of Sweet Honey in the Rock; Jo Sallins, internationally touring composer and musician; Avery Sharpe, master jazz bassist; Youssoupha Sidibe, Senegalese kora player, and Tony Vacca of World Rhythms Ensemble. This inspiring multi-arts event will support the work of the Performance Project, which believes in the power of art to connect us, to engage youth, and to celebrate our full humanity.
First Generation is a program of the Performance Project, a nonprofit based in Springfield, which utilizes visual and performing arts to build an intergenerational and intercultural mentoring community, and catalyze personal growth and expression. First Generation creates original multi-lingual performances with youth in Springfield, engaging participants and audiences in dialogues about critical social and cultural issues. Programs of the Performance Project build leadership capacity and provide a platform for young adults ages 15-22 to claim a public voice in their communities and beyond.
